Dr. Garoufalis
Dr. Matthew G. Garoufalis graduated from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio in 1978 with degrees in Biology and Economics and graduated from the Dr. Wm. M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in 1982.
After completing a surgical residency at the Westside VA Medical Center in Chicago, Dr. Garoufalis began private practice in Chicago. He now has offices in Chicago and Hinsdale, Illinois and is the Assistant Residency Director at the VA Chicago Health Care System - Westside Division. He is also on the medical staff of St. Anthony Hospital, Mercy Hospital and Hinsdale Hospital.
Dr. Garoufalis is past president of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association; serving in all of it's elected positions. Dr. Garoufalis was elected to the American Podiatric Medical Association Board of Trustees in 2003 and has served on several APMA committees. He is committed to expanding public awareness about the importance of podiatric medicine and in allowing students to realize the dynamic positive impact they have in shaping the future growth on the profession, as well as their own personal achievement.
Dr. Garoufalis is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine, and a Fellow of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He is also a Certified Wound Specialist by the Academy of Wound Management. He has authored many articles and has lectured extensively across the country, on a variety of topics pertinent to podiatric medicine and surgery and practice management.
is Board Certified in Foot Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery (September 2008). She is also Board Certified in
Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery (September 2011) and is now a Diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. She holds academic appointment as a Clinical Instructor in PSUR Surgery at Rosalind Franklin Univeristy of Medicine and Science. Dr. Sakevich continues to be an active member of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association and the American Podiatric Medical Association. She served on the board of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Assocation for two years. She is Board Certified as a Diplomat in Wound Care Management with the American Academy of Wound Management (October 2010). Dr. Sakevich has lectured at national meetings, including annually at the Midwest Podiatry Conference. In addition, she is an internationally known lecturer who has lectured at the Arthroscopy Skills Course in Lobeck, Germany. Dr. Sakevich is an Active Teacher in Family Medicine through the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Sakevich continues to be an invaluable and hard-working member of our podiatric staff and is of paramount importance to our ability to be able to deliver outstanding patient care along with remaining an educational force
for podiatric medicine in both residency development and student teaching.
